- Parrot Beak Betony has dark green to purple tinged leaves with slight serrations on the edges. The leaves are connected around the stem and the blooming white flowers appear similar to a parrot’s beak.
St. John's Wort is a widespread perennial and reproduces by short runners as well as seeds. The stems are between 1 to 2 1⁄2 feet high, erect, and have numerous rust colored branches. The oblong leaves are covered with transparent dots, up to one inch long, and arranged oppositely along the stem. The numerous bright yellow flowers are 3⁄4 inch in diameter flat-topped clusters. Each flower consists of 5 separate petals. The numerous stamens are arranged in groups of three.
Skullcap is a delicate, erect perennial with smooth square stems. The leaves are opposite in arrangement, and thin and egg-shaped with toothed margins. The flowers are blue, two-lipped, and found in elongate groups on stalks in the upper half of the plant.

Cautions
- Parrot Beak Betony is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
Due to the presence of tannins, large doses of Parrot Beak Betony and can cause significant irritation to the GI tract. Use extra caution if also taking drugs that alter blood pressure.
Oral use of St. John’s Wort is generally well-tolerated. Side effects are possible, most commonly insomnia. The use of St. John’s Wort is not recommended during pregnancy due to its ability to increase muscle tone of the uterus. The use of St. John’s Wort may reduce the therapeutic effects of the drug digitalis. St. John’s Wort may interact with various antidepressant medications. It is recommended to seek professional advice prior to the use of St. John’s Wort in cases of dementia, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, clinical depression, or if attempting to conceive.
The use of Skullcap should be avoided if liver disorders exist. High doses of Skullcap may cause giddiness, dizziness, mental confusion, limb twitching, numbness, and irregular pulse rate. The use of Skullcap with other herbs or drugs that have sedative properties may enhance both the therapeutic and adverse effects.
