- Gumweed is a sticky perennial with smooth stems and averages 2' to 3' tall. The leaves are 1⁄2" to 5" long and lance-shaped with toothed margins. The 1/2" disk-shaped flower heads have outer rows of small, resinous yellow ray flowers. Gumweed is a source of grindelia, a spasmodic used commercially to stimulate the mucous membranes in the treatment of chronic bronchitis and asthma.
Mullein is a biennial that produces a large thick rosette of furry leaves the first year and a single stout erect stem, 3 to 6 feet tall, the following year. The leaves are alternate, overlapping one another, light green, and densely woolly. Bright yellow flowers grow singly in the long second year spike. Each flower has five petals and averages 1⁄4" to 1⁄2” in diameter. Thousands of minute seeds follow in autumn and provide a valuable food source for wintering birds. Mullein is common along river bottoms, in pastures, meadows, fence rows and waste areas, and prefers gravel-like soil.
Purslane is an herbaceous annual growing to a height of up to 18". The stems are reddish and the fleshy, succulent leaves alternate. The small yellow flowers are hermaphroditic (male and female organs are on the same plant) and grow in clusters. The plant is self-fertile and pollinated by insects. Formed in a tiny pod, the edible seeds are small, wrinkled, shiny, and black.
Fresh Plant Tincture Extract initiated within 36 hours of harvest. Ratio 1g : 3.6mL Both alcohol and water soluble plant constituents are extracted by immersing plant materials in a food grade alcohol and distilled water blend.

Cautions
- Gumweed can cause an allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family (i.e. ragweed, marigolds, daisies).
Gumweed may cause upset stomach or diarrhea in some individuals. Excessive dosages can irritate the kidneys due to the herb's resins.
Mullein is considered safe when used appropriately.
Pregnant women should avoid the use of Purslane in therapeutic doses. It may act to stimulate uterine contractions, however reports on this action are contradictory. Caution is warranted for those with a history of kidney stones as Purslane contains oxalic acid. Additionally Purslane may increase kidney filtration and urine production which could possibly cause a stone to move.
