Cautions
- Never use fresh bark. It must be aged for at least one year before use to reduce its cramping effect.
Do not use Cascara in cases of intestinal obstruction, acute intestinal inflammation, ulcerative colitis, IBS, colitis, hemorrhoids, appendicitis, or abdominal pain of unknown origin. Excessive use can cause nausea and vomiting. Cascara should not be used continuously for more than 1-2 weeks. It recommended to avoid concomitant use of Cascara with other oral drugs, laxatives, corticosteroids, potassium depleting diuretics, or cardiac glycosides such as digoxin.
