Goldenrod is a diuretic that increases urine flow without increasing sodium excretion and when taken with abundant fluids can aid in the flushing and prevention of urinary and kidney gravel. Goldenrod may also act to reduce inflammation within the lower urinary tract.
Steep 2 tsp. in one cup hot water for 5-10 minutes then strain; take 2 to 4 times daily between meals. Drink plenty of water; 2 liters per day or more is recommended.
Goldenrod may also be beneficial as a mouth rinse for inflammation of the mouth and throat. Prepare as above and gargle.

- Goldenrod can be 1'-5' tall and has a smooth stem which becomes downy near the top. The lanceolate leaves are usually smooth with sharply toothed edges and are densely clustered on the stem. The leaves are three veined with two prominent veins running parallel to the midrib and they remain fairly equal in size or get gradually smaller near the top. The flowers have 9-15 tiny rays in each small head (roughly 1/8" long). Blooming from July through September, the curved flower clusters are one sided and form a large, plume-like terminal cluster. Many species of Goldenrod are utilized by insects for a variety of reasons. There are eleven species of Goldenrod in the Rocky Mountains.
