- Tribulus, commonly known as Puncture Vine, is found in the American West, India, Europe, and China, and has long been utilized for its properties as an aphrodisiac and for increasing testosterone and improving sexual performance. However, the spiky and potentially destructive fruit of this otherwise very “loving” plant has led to some rather unpleasant name calling; such as Cat’s Head, Devil’s Weed, Goat Head, and Devil’s Thorn. Puncture Vine is a prostrate annual herb that grows from a simple taproot. The plant produces numerous stems, up to several feet long that are multi-branched and arise from the crown to produce a dense mat. The Tribulus Terrestris fruit (seed) is a woody burr with sharp, rigid spines. Tribulus is Latin for "three-pointed, a caltrop”.
